Parking Lot Safety

At Harriet Bishop Elementary School, there are two traffic lanes as you enter the upper-level parking lot. They are the Drop & Go Lane and the Drive-Thru Lane.

Drop & Go Lane

The Drop & Go lane is the ideal lane for adults to take when speed and efficiency are most important. This lane gets students into the school quickly and ready to learn and gets parents quickly out of the parking lot and on with their day.

In the Drop & Go Lane:

  • The driver drives as far ahead as they are able to
  • The driver stays in the car
  • The student is prepared to exit the car with all their belongings (backpack on their back or their bag in hand or over shoulder)
  • The student exits the car using the door nearest to the curb
  • The student uses the sidewalk to walk to the school’s main entrance

In the Drop & Go Lane, there are three important things to remember:

  • Students should not exit the driver’s side of the vehicle, which will directly place them into the flow of traffic
  • Adults should not exit their vehicle
  • Adults should not open their vehicle’s back door or hatch for students to retrieve bags or backpacks in the vehicle

Drive-Thru Lane

The Drive-Thru Lane is the ideal lane for parents and guardians to take when extra care is needed to get students into the school and ready to learn. We like to think of it as the “Park and Hug” and lane.

In the Drive Thru Lane:

  • The driver drives thru the lane, locates a parking spot and parks their vehicle
  • The driver exits the vehicle to assist their student with their backpack and belongings
  • The driver hugs/kisses the students and walks with the student, using the crosswalk or sidewalk to walk to the school’s main entrance

There can be a lot of different emotions happening for both students and parents at morning drop-off, and by following these simple guidelines will keep everyone safe and help students be ready for a day of learning.

Riding the bus is the safest way to get to and from school

Did you know that the safest way to get your student to school is by riding the bus? We always encourage families to use bus transportation to get students to and from school if it’s available to them.

Be safe, have a plan for drop-off, and help get students into school and ready for an amazing day of learning!
